Em busca dos primeiros sinais da primavera… / Searching for signs that Spring is coming…

É impossível negar, os primeiros dias de sol e calor chegaram, a agitação das aves dificilmente passa despercebida e as primeiras cores do ano começam a surpreender os prados mais adormecidos.

It is impossible to deny, the first days of sun and heat arrived, the stirring of birds hardly passes unnoticed, and the first colours of the year begin to surprise even the sleepiest meadows.

Esta época que se avizinha é das minhas preferidas, a natureza entra no seu auge e mais um ciclo se repete para dar lugar a novas vidas e fascinar todos os que se atrevem a descobrir os seus encantos. De volta estão os “pilotos” da alta velocidade, as andorinhas-da-chaminé (Hirundo rustica)  que desafiam a gravidade com as suas manobras de voo arriscadas e igualmente fascinantes de observar.

This time ahead is one of my favourites, nature will be at its peak and another cycle is repeated to give way to new lives and fascinate all who dare to discover its charms. Back are the “pilots” of high speed, the barn swallows (Hirundo rustica)  that defy gravity with their risky flight manoeuvres, daring and fascinating to observe.

Ao longe, já se ouvem os primeiros chamados do cuco (cuculos-canoros), que chega mais uma vez para passar a estação. Incansável, todos os anos percorre milhares de quilómetros numa migração feita a partir de Africa, para nos agraciar com o seu hino à primavera.

In the distance I’m hearing the first calls of the cuckoo (cuculos-canoros), arriving once again to spend the season. Tireless, every year travels thousands of miles in a migration made from Africa to grace us with his ode to spring.

Os casais de rola-turca (Streptopelia decaocto) passam a toda a brida no céu azul, procuram bons locais para nidificar e fazem-se ouvir bem alto numa melodia pretendida para cortejar até as fêmeas mais afoitas.

Couples of Eurasian collared doves (Streptopelia decaocto) fly in full throttle crossing the blue skies, looking for good places to nest and making themselves be heard by loudly singing a melody design to woo even the most difficult females.

Uma ave que voltou a aparecer por aqui é o alegre pintassilgo (Carduelis carduelis)! Em bandos, enchem os choupos de cor e alegria.

Another bird that reappeared is the cheerful goldfinch (Carduelis Carduelis)! In flocks fill the poplars with colour and joy.

Outras aves se fazem ouvir e ver com mais frequência, está na altura de começar a definir territórios, escolher ninhos ou fazê-los do zero, e acima de tudo, encontrar um par para atravessar, uma vez mais, esta época árdua de muito trabalho: alimentar, proteger e ensinar as suas crias.

Other birds are heard and seen more often, its time to define territories, choose nests or make them from scratch, and above all, find partners to cross once again this difficult time of hard work: feeding, protecting and teaching their young.

 Ainda estou a tentar descobrir que espécie de ave esta a construir este fantastico ninho no canavial.. / I’m still trying to figure out what kind of bird is building this fantastic nest in the cane fields ..

 um gaio aproveita os primeiros raios quentes de sol.. / a jay enjoys  the first warm rays of sunshine..

Ainda é possível observar a petinha dos prados (Anthus pratensis) , espécie invernante, que agora no mês de Março prepara-se para partir, os últimos exemplares irão deixar Portugal nos princípios de Abril e só retornarão no fim da época estival.

You can still observe the meadow pipit (Anthus pratensis), wintering specie, which now in the month of March is preparing to leave, the last members will leave Portugal in early April and only return at the end of summer.

Nos próximos meses irei relatar por aqui todas as novidades que surjam , vamos ver com mais detalhe algumas espécies de fauna e flora e tentar acompanhar os ninhos naturais e as caixas instaladas no montado.
